Following a week of heavy downpours that resulted in floodwaters across sections of the city, the City of Angels is now grappling with unseasonably high temperatures for the end of February. Record-Setting Temperatures During the day Friday, the thermometer reached 91°F (33°C) in the city center, per data from meteorologists. This easily surpasses the previous daily record for February 27th, which was eighty-eight degrees Fahrenheit and was established in the previous year. "Exceptionally warm weather" were noted on forecast charts for the region. Public Health Advisories Forecasters cautioned that Friday's conditions posed an "increased danger for heat illness" for people sensitive to heat. Their guidance included: Drinking plenty of fluids. Reducing outdoor activities during the peak heat of the day. Never leaving children or pets unattended in a hot car. A Sharp Weather Swing This dramatic increase in heat comes on the heels of a powerful winter storm that struck the area recently. That storm unleashed high winds, thunderstorms, and significant snowfall to higher elevations, causing evacuation orders for millions residents. Unfortunately, the severe weather also triggered a large avalanche in the Lake Tahoe area, which resulted in nine fatalities. Temperatures Easing Looking ahead a cooldown is expected. Temperatures were predicted to drop to around 61°F (16°C) in the city by overnight. Other locales that reached the 90-degree mark were Long Beach, Burbank, and Woodland Hills. Elsewhere, Westwood, Camarillo, Santa Maria, and Oxnard were expected to reach the upper eighties. For the weekend, central LA can see readings in the 80s, with mid-70s temperatures likely for the following week.
