My feeling was I got a touch - Alex Carey on review reprieve.

Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey stated he felt he had nicked the ball when he was reprieved on DRS during day one of the third Ashes series Test versus England.

After surviving on 72, Carey proceeded to score a excellent 106 to guide the hosts finish on 326-8 at the close in the Adelaide Oval.

What happened?

Australia were 245 for 6 when Carey looked to play a cut to seamer Josh Tongue.

England appealed confidently, certain they had detected an nick, but umpire Ahsan Raza was unmoved.

After captain Ben Stokes challenged the on-field call, the footage reviewed by TV umpire Chris Gaffaney showed a spike but this came before the ball had made contact with the bat.

Gaffaney added he believed there was a clearance between bat and ball.

Therefore, Carey was given not out.

"I felt a little noise as the ball went past," commented Carey.

"If I was given out I think I would have reviewed it, probably not confidently. It was a nice sound as it passed the bat."

Ongoing Scrutiny

Questions have been raised about 'the Snickometer' during the Ashes contest after a series of unclear moments.

England's bowling coach David Saker indicated England may escalate this most recent incident further with the match official Jeff Crowe.

"So far we've let it go, but this might push us to take action," Saker said.

"There have been concerns about it for the whole series. It's disappointing that this is a post-play discussion. It is what it is."

A Special Hundred

His hundred was his first in the Ashes.

It was also an emotional moment for Carey, whose father passed away in September. Carey's wife was in tears in the crowd as the batter marked the occasion by looking to the skies.

"Scoring a century at home with family watching was incredible," said Carey.

"You can probably understand my glance skyward. I'm trying not to tear up. But, no, it was great."

Previous Ashes Drama

Carey is not new to Ashes controversy.

He was the wicketkeeper who famously dismissed Jonny Bairstow at Lord's Cricket Ground in the 2023 series, leading to a intense final day.

Speaking about his survival he added: "The technology clearly wasn't synchronized. That's cricket - you get the rub of the green sometimes."

"Maybe it went my way."
