New York Jets Head Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn noted that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “in good spirits” during their recent conversation.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His family, they are doing well and he will walk away from this just fine.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where his condition is described as serious yet stable.

“Don’t know just yet,” the coach said. “Yet I must mention, hearing him speak, he seemed very positive. And again, that reassures me, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

NYPD shared surveillance images Monday of an individual wanted in the shooting of Boyd. A motive for the shooting remains under investigation and officials stated it remains uncertain if Boyd was singled out. No one else was hurt were reported.

The shooting happened just after 2am on Sunday morning in the area between MSG and Times Square. Boyd, 29, was transported to a medical center after suffering a wound to the stomach, police said. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn shared Boyd has been in his thoughts “constantly” since he heard about the shooting. The coach said that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a child.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he just had a kid,” Glenn remarked. “I thought of his spouse, considering his child and I hope he recovers fully. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“There’s a process to this, that I won’t detail, but I’m happy at the fact that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd was inactive during the current season, his first with the Jets, after his season was cut short due to injury on 18 August with a shoulder issue that required surgery.

He signed with New York as an unrestricted free agent in March and was expected to be a significant contributor of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during a training camp practice on 2 August and had to be helped off.

Boyd has remained around the team during the entire campaign while healing from his surgery.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn said. “I mean, he attends every game. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, from Texas, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by Minnesota out of Texas University in the 2019 draft. He signed with Arizona in last year and moved to Houston’s squad subsequently. Boyd inked a single-season agreement valued at $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
