Orbital Images Reveal Iran's Navy and Nuclear Sites Targeted by Joint US and Israeli Military Action.

A series of US and Israeli strikes has allegedly eliminated or harmed at least 11 Iran's navy ships since the weekend, recently obtained satellite images reveal, with launch facilities and atomic facilities also sustaining hits.

Pictures of the southern Konarak naval military port and the Bandar Abbas facility, which overlooks the strategic Hormuz Strait and contains the main command of the Iran's naval force, depict black smoke pouring from a number of warships on recent days.

Maritime Forces Incurred Substantial Losses

Among the vessels destroyed was the IRINS Makran, the country's most sizable ship which had been used as a drone carrier. Orbital photos displayed black smoke pouring from the vessel which had been docked at the Bandar Abbas base.

Intelligence assessments indicate that at least five ships at the port were "hit or sunk". Pictures of the south end of the port reveal smoke rising from the Makran, while two other vessels seem to be damaged, with one of them visibly ablaze.

Over at Konarak, images display multiple damaged ships, with expert review pointing to impacts on six ships. Photos from the start of the week also indicate that multiple facilities at the installation have been leveled.

"For many years the Iran's leadership has threatened international shipping," a senior US military official declared. "At present, there is not a single vessel from Iran at sea in the Persian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz or Gulf of Oman, and we will continue."

A number of vessels reportedly destroyed may have been obscured in satellite images by weather conditions or battle damage, or targeted offshore, and have not been conclusively proven. Separate reports stated that one Iranian ship was foundering off the coast of Sri Lanka's waters, resulting in a search and rescue mission.

Missile Bases and Nuclear Locations Targeted

Eliminating Tehran's launch facilities and the stopping nuclear weapons development were listed as other goals of the air campaign. Satellite images also depicted damage at the southern Khorgu and northwestern Tabriz missile bases, and at the Konarak air base, where missile storage facilities and fortifications were struck.

Over at the Choqa Balk-e drone UAV facility to the west of Kermanshah, widespread destruction was seen to sheds, underground facilities and drone launch equipment.

Damage was also seen at a surveillance station at the Zahedan airbase airbase in eastern Iran, near the border with neighboring nations.

Of particular note, the latest wave of strikes have reportedly targeted installations at the Natanz complex – considered at the core of the country's nuclear programme. The UN's atomic energy body commented that the damaged structures were used for access to the facility's underground nuclear plant and that "no release of radioactive material" was likely.

Wider Impact and Analysis

Military analysts indicated that the strikes appeared to have "greatly reduced" the Iranian navy's capability to sustain traditional warfare using its most significant warships. However, it was stressed that Tehran retains the option to launch unconventional attacks at sea through the use of unmanned aerial vehicles, mini-submarines and its so-called "shadow fleet" of tankers.

The total extent of the damage caused to Iran's defense facilities has yet to be fully assessed, with attacks said to be ongoing. Pictures also indicates widespread damage to the main offices of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the capital Tehran.

A significant number of civilian buildings also appear to have been struck in the capital and throughout the country since the conflict started. Casualty figures from local officials suggest that a high number of non-combatants may have been fatally injured in the bombardment.

With the conflict ongoing, analysis of aerial photographs will carry on to assess the unfolding scope of damage.
