More than 50 lone minor migrants who went missing soon after arriving the UK and while in the care of the authorities are still missing, according to figures gathered.

Many of the unaccounted minors entered in small boats or concealed in the rear compartments of trucks and are believed to have been abducted by criminal networks. A specific county is commonly the place where they initially reach.

Official Data Shows Disturbing Totals

Publicly available information has registered 345 children disappearing from the region, with 56 of those yet to be located.

Between 2021 and 2023, when two hotels for children functioned in addition to similar establishments in different regions, 132 children went missing from these facilities. Of these, 108 were later found but 24 are yet to be found.

From 2020 and August 2025, 213 children disappeared from welcome hubs for such children, with 182 recovered and 32 remaining vanished.

Ethnic Composition of Missing Children

In the two scenarios, minors from Albania were the largest group to go missing, making up a full half the overall number from the hotels, 68, and more than a quarter from the welcome hubs, 65.

The second and third largest origins to have disappeared from each location are Afghans subsequently Iranian nationals.

"The statistics are shocking. For every statistic is a scared youth who will undergone grave mistreatment before arriving in the UK seeking safety."

Advocacy representatives highlighted that when supporting children who have fled after being exploited whilst unaccounted for, they observe how their psychological and bodily well-being is lastingly damaged by the exploitation they experience during this time.

"If just one youth to vanish constitutes an total collapse of the state to safeguard the most vulnerable and mistreated in their care. These numbers are in the several hundred."

Necessary Steps to Address the Crisis

Specialists stated more needed to be done to recover the unaccounted youths. "Minors have not opted to vanish.
