The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Chose the Wrong Popular RPG Show Track

This latest animated series, the newest animated adventure by Critical Role, revealed a new opening credits. It showcases our favorite cast of misfits, outcasts, and criminals kicking ass and taking names, while teasing at multiple heart-wrenching personal histories for characters such as Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, the character Fjord.

Overall, the intro appears amazing. However, I felt that something was missing in the song choice.

The intro employs "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional composition created by artist the talented musician. It's a track from the official score of that title, the second release released by the production company's record label their music brand. It's a wonderful sentimental option, and I suspect that devotees of the sequel series will love its inclusion.

Personally, The Mighty Nein's intro doesn't quite capture the hype and energy that was part of the show's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", written by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic for me when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when co-founder the performer wrote words to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Including singing from one actress, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the track was memorable and fun. Back then, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series yet, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my phone. This track that excites you before you dive into an episode of fantasy hijinks.

The show's opening with "the new song" fails to hit the right notes in my opinion. It's an impressive composition, but based on my understanding of the group, I can't help but feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, Critical Role has already said that the animated show will have a few changes and differences from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its intro appears as one of them.

The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on the streaming service from November 19. If you can't wait until then, or wish to prepare to learn about the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are accessible on Spotify and YouTube.
